But not the article you'd want him to be in. I feel for him and that poor ST3. This was during the massive storm we had here yesterday. :(
!!! UNKNOWN CONTENT TYPE !!!
My picture even made it into the article! Ready to see it? Check it out below:
Yep, this is the picture I took. :P
I snapped this picture of my TV, that's the hatch of his ST, rising above the water like RMS Titanic... :(
A moment of silence for his lost car. Wasn't even a year old; hopefully it's up in the Nurburgring in the sky, overboosting past dem V-Tec Honda's.
Stay safe out there if you're in the area.

Honestly, in my version of Detroit, they all drive Donks anyway, so I can't imagine this being that bad.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:32 |

insurance? should cover him ....or is this one of those acts of god they love to decline on..
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:33 |

Well shit.

U MAD BRO?
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:34 |

Trust me, we all don't drive Donks. Yes it was this bad all over Detroit, major and minor roads, neighborhoods and freeways.

Not sure yet.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:35 |

Did he misjudge the depth, or was it like a flash flooding kind of scenario?
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:35 |

It's even the best color an ST can come in.

Even more reason to.

One friend got her Traverse stuck at 12 & Hayes, and it took my aunt an hour and 45 minutes to go home from work last night. Her usual commute is roughly 20 minutes.
Here's a pic of the 696 & 75 interchange my friend posted.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:38 |

Why is he the only car in that water? Did he try to cross? And also, that thing is clearly totaled right?
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:39 |
|
Couldn't he back up, or is the intake that low on those?
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:39 |

flash flood.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:39 |

Don't even get me started on those things..
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:40 |

Holy shit!! That's a fucking pond over there! was that pic from yesterday or today? Detroit really is in some deep water now..
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:42 |
|
I feel very bad for your friend, really bad, me and nobody would like to pass through that, but i dont pity that car really.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:42 |
|
Most likely totaled and look at the cars in the upper right in the lead pic. He said he saw a Mustang go through it in front of him, so he figured he could do the same, if not better than a low Mustang...Still tragic. Yes, the Mustang made it to the other side.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:43 |

That is right where CrzRsn and I live. Very glad we both made it home ok and our basement did not flood.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:43 |
|
Not sure, but those pics were taken after the car died, water still rising. I think the intake is pretty much right in the center of the black grill though.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:43 |

Yesterday. She works at the GM Tech Center and was told not to come in today.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:44 |

Insurance should cover an act of god. It did when I got hailed on. It's covered under comprehensive coverage.
I don't know what they'll say if he drove into the water though....
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:44 |
|
You don't have to pity the car, but I'll ask "why not?" anyway.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:45 |

My aunt who had the long commute lives in Warren and has a dry basement, my other aunt that lives in Clawson had 2" of water in her basement.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:46 |
|
Holy damn that looks considerably worse then the last photo I've seen. Lowest damn point in all of metro Detroit.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:47 |
|
So you live on the other side of the interchange from me then. Geez that's awful. Thank goodness your basement didn't flood! Mine started to leak sewer water, fans and towels mitigated that for now. Good luck with any future commutes you've got around there.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:47 |
|
For good reason. All the major roads leading into Detroit seem to be flooded right now.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:49 |
|
One of my sorority sisters lost her car yesterday as well, she had to crawl out the trunk and swim to the shoulder. This happened during rush hour, everyone was stuck under the overpass as the water was rising.
Even professional drivers were stuck... poor new 200s:

I hear ya man. Tasteless. SLABs on the other hand ...
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:49 |

I'm kinda hoping for a free trip home, but MI doesn't usually ask for Federal assistance and this probably isn't going to merit a disaster declaration.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:51 |

Dammit...sucks is an understatement. but that sucks.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:51 |

It'll cover if you have comprehensive, floods are specifically covered in all comprehensive policies I've ever seen. If you've only got state minimums you're SOL.
Ex: Geico
Comprehensive coverage pays the cost of damage (minus any applicable deductible) that occurs as a result of a non-collision incident including: fire, flood, theft, falling objects, vandalism, collision with an animal, hail, malicious mischief, windstorms, civil commotion, explosion, earthquake, water damage, lightning, larceny, and damage caused by flying objects (missiles). Comprehensive coverage also covers windshields and the other glass in your vehicles.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:52 |
|
Ah that sucks :( If you look at the traffic cameras here , the roads are still that bad. Luckily for me 75 North was clear, but CrzRsn was told to stay home, lucky dog. I was very grateful for my lift kit last night though!
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:54 |

What's a SLAB?

How did your buddy manage to get stuck. I live 1 mile from that intersection. What in your mind goes "hey, let's try to ford 2-3 feet of standing water in my compact hatch. A moment of silence for Darwin, indeed.

Just did a GIS
Every picture I saw had the intake out of the water. Maybe it shorted something out? Or he splashed in there at a good clip.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 10:59 |

Yay Jeeps! Thankfully, all of my commutes put me nowhere near there though. LTU, on the other hand, I'm curious as to what it's like over there.

I prefer not to say the reasons so that there isnt any further discussions with other Oppos that could read this comment, so in a few words, i dont like that car.
But again i say, to loose your car like that is terrible and i feel very sorry for the owner. I cant imagine how would i feel in his place. Slowly watching the car drown.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:01 |

I don't think the water was nearly as high as in the photos he took and above when he went through. He said a Mustang went through and made it to the other side right in front of him; he figured the FoST would be fine or even do better than the Stang.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:02 |

NOW I understand donks...
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:02 |

I'm in Seattle. Grew up all around Metro Detroit. Including the previously mentioned aunts, I've got family in St. Clair Shores, Harrison Twp & Chesterfield. I graduated high school out near PoHo.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:02 |
|
Yeah, I'm completely joking. I'm in Chicago, so there's a lot of people I know who grew up in Detroit or are going to college here. Reminds me of the flooding in Indiana a few years back.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:02 |
|
I'm more okay with this than Donks, but those wheels? Inspired by gladiators? Seems dangerous.

Why is there never a Jeep guy with a winch and a snorkel when you need him..?
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:03 |

![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:05 |

I assume a shorting out then? This was me driving through some hell yesterday, probably nothing in comparison to his car:
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:06 |

But he didnt notice the Mustang had a snorkel on the drivers side A pillar.

Almost lost my 07 Milan FWD V6 yesterday, this was worse than any snow I've driven in. IT was absolutely insane, everywhere I went to try and get around- more water.
I had water up as high on my front as the FoST in the last image.
IN A NEIGHBORHOOD. It was nuts. I saw an XJ with a 4 inch lift kit that had water above his floor boards. That was a sign to turn around on that road.
Went down another and saw a Jeep Commander (stock) with water halfway up the grille. turned into a neighborhood to try and get away, no in front of me I didn't realize until it was almost too late how deep it was, thanks to random guy playing on his bicycle in the rain that warned me by riding into the middle showing almost his whole bike tire under water. Slammed into reverse and thankfully got out of there, but a new Fusion Titanium must have thought I was a wimp because it plowed into the water...and got stuck.
I sincerely almost couldn't drive my car to my sons daycare. Almost put it in park as close as I could get and walked the rest of the way. But I made it through another 10 inch deep water crossing in it to get into the daycare. took me 2 hours and 20 minutes for what normally takes about 45-60 minutes.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:08 |

Ah okay. I'm in Southfield, all is alright over here, but some of the surrounding areas aren't doing so well. From what I've seen the closest, Oak Park and Royal Oak in some places is underwater. Neighborhoods are swimming pools and whatnot. So many hydrolocked cars from yesterday.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:08 |

hat was that flooding like? This is the worst I've ever seen here.

My god! That's awful, thank goodness you saved yourself, your car, and your son. This truly has become a waterworld. I can't even imagine what it's like to be in Detroit's downtown right now. It must be like rush hour 24/7 now.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:14 |

Found this nifty website that summarizes it up pretty well:
https://standeyo.com/NEWS/08_Earth_
Basically, ever 2-3 years, Indiana turns into a giant shallow pool because the land is so flat.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:14 |
|
I'm guessing the hatch opened because of electrical stuff spazzing out once water got in. Anyway, I'm glad he was able to get to safety. That sucks about his car. Hopefully insurance will take care of him. Any car with water above the instrument panel is an automatic total loss as far as I know. His wheels should still be good, though. I'd snatch those before insurance takes it.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:15 |

![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:15 |

That section of I75 is < half a mile from where I lived for 25 years! In any decent storm that section of 75 gets flooded. I don't know how when they just redid most of that area they didn't come up with any sort of better drainage.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:16 |

I saw it on FreeP yesterday, totally submerged. Cried a little on the inside.

This is why you do not drive into water. Just don't.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:17 |

Just wait 'til it freezes.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:18 |

A lot of people stopped before the water, then got stuck because everyone piled in behind them so they couldn't back out. The water then over took the vehicles.

You've gone too far!
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:20 |

![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:24 |

So why didn't he back-up? Did the car die? How far does the water have to climb for him to go "Well, I should really start backing up now."
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:24 |
|
Despite water service being shut off, residents recieve gallons upon gallons for free! I guess not everyone knows where exactly their air box sits or how resilient their electrical system is to being submerged, but I still can't get over some people's decision making processess. The jeeps were having a blast in Royal Oak. It's about the only other thing they get to do besides go to the mall / grocery store.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:27 |

Fuck man didn't we just talk about this yesterday? You convinced me that the Hovervan was the way to go in a flood.
It seems your friend doesn't listen to your advice all that well.

I don't understand why anyone would leave their vehicle in rising floodwaters.
![]() 08/12/2014 at 11:31 |
